Even when the sparrow falls

Yesterday, a young girl brought a baby sparrow up to me and said that she found it in the store. Her mom would not let her keep the bird so I offered to take care of it. I am a bird person- not a bird watcher- just a bird lover :)
Anyhow, this little guy stole my heart right away as he realized that I would take care of him and keep him safe.Birds and me go back quite a ways.
One of my best friends through  the traumatic time of teen life was a bird. We ate together, talked together, sang together, went on bike rides together, and developed our own language. One day I realized he was sick... My vet bill ended up being more than $200 which was a fortune for me; but I had to do everything I could to save my little friend. We became even closer over the next couple years until his age caught up with him and he became deathly ill.
It was a horrible experience watching him suffer when I could do nothing. I remember holding him for hours, talking to him, singing to him, and praying that he would get better. All this time I did not realize that he was dying in my hands.
With his final breath, my little friend reached up and gave me a kiss on the nose before sinking into his final sleep. You can ask anyone in my family and they will tell you that I succumbed to a complete mourning experience. I did not eat, get out of bed, or move any of my bird's belongings.
It was a long time before I recovered from this loss and allowed another pet in my life :)
But I have learned that it is better to have loved and lost than not to have loved at all.

So as you may or may not have guessed, the little sparrow did not make it through the night, but he did leave me with a very important lesson. Have you thought how amazing our God is?
He knows each and every sparrow that falls. He cares for each of his creation, and yet we are more precious  to him than these.
God does not see us as just another person, another item on his art shelf; He sees us as the individual we are, and he loves us like we were his only child. So no matter where you are right now, no matter what you are going through, no matter what you believe, know that God sees YOU and cares for YOU. Learn to trust and love him back!
