princess Rosanna 12

The final chapter is here and I hope y'all enjoyed it as much as I enjoyed writing it so many years back! Maybe fairy tales are ridiculous and absurd to some but I really enjoy them :) If I had my way, I would dream this kind of dream every night!!!

~chapter six
A deadly deed~

Sir Wright made it to the door before Derrick had a chance to push it open; but Sir Wright was focused on running and he was not prepared for Derrick’s attack. The hard blow to his Jaw knocked him to the floor and before he could get back on his feet Derrick had escaped through the door.
Roger hurriedly ran after his brother with King Charles at his heels.
Rosanna noted that Derrick had entered a long passage, having only one exit. If she ran quickly she may make it there before Derrick did.
The group sat with amazed silence and watched as their princess scurried out of the room.
Just as she reached her destination, the passage door opened and Derrick slipped through then pushed his full body weight against the door. When he turned to look around the room he spotted Rosanna. He was not in the mood for games which was obvious by his glare of irritation.
“Come to stop…me… have you…princess.”
He was breathing heavily.
Rosanna stood her ground but felt foolish that she had not thought about getting someone to come with her.
She could hear her father and Roger shoving on the door that Derrick was against.
Derrick knew that he would not be able to make it out of the room before Roger and King Charles got the door open. Nor could he hold the door shut forever; He needed a different plan.
With speed, Derrick rushed away from the door just as Roger and the King pushed into the room. Derrick grabbed Rosanna by the neck and stuck a knife to her throat.
Roger and King Charles stopped where they were.
Rosanna stood frozen in her place.
“You make one move before I get out of this room and I kill her.”
Then Derrick scooted his feet and pulled Rosanna along.
Rosanna had learned from her father that if she were to be taken anyplace against her will that she must not make it easy on her kidnappers. So Rosanna made her body limp and Derrick had to grab her around the waist to keep her up.
“Walk, Princess!”
He ordered but she did not obey and Derrick began to panic.
“Move I said!”
Rosanna could feel the cold blade of the knife upon her skin and braced herself for the painful cut when suddenly Derrick Cried out in pain and slumped to the floor. The knife cut Rosanna as it slipped from Derrick’s grasp. Rosanna put a hand to the cut as she turned to see what had happened. She was surprised and relieved to see Old Bear holding a chair firmly in his grasp.
Rosanna remembered the cut and pulled her hand away from it, blood covered her hand. She could hear her father calling to her but his voice continued to move farther and farther away.

King Charles watched his daughter fall to the floor and hurried to her side.
He picked her head up into his arms and began to make sounds as his body shook. Then he cried out loudly.
“My Daughter! My Daughter!”
Sir Wright came into the room and surveyed the situation. Derrick began to move and Sir Wright hurried to tie him before he could get away.
Roger walked slowly over to the king, who knelt with one knee touching the floor.
Roger saw the beautiful face of the brave princess and struggled to hold back the tears that attempted to come out at the sight of the blood that was coming from her throat.
Roger knelt on the opposite side of Rosanna and put a hand over her nose he could feel the faintest tickle of breath.
“Your majesty.”
The king did not look up; he seemed to be in a trance.
“She is still alive, your majesty.”
King Charles lifted his eyes to see if Roger were speaking the truth.
Then he put his ear against Rosanna's chest to listen for heart beat. His voice broke as he called to Roger.
“Hurry..find a doctor.”
Before Roger could move, a man came forward and spoke.
“I am a doctor, but before I can examine her I must have a private room.”
The king tried to lift his daughter into his arms but his body was still weak from the poison and he could not lift her.
Roger scooped Rosanna into his arms and hurriedly carried her into her chamber.
He now knew why she had been so frightened of him at the mine. He could not believe that she was the same girl that had begged him not to harm her; not after the way she had stood up to his brother.
She was a brave soul.

~chapter seven
a mended wound~

One year later-

Rosanna smiled at herself in the mirror as she surveyed her wedding gown. She had ordered the same dress that her mother had ordered for her first wedding. The only exception was that she had ordered the neck to be higher to cover the small scar that gave a constant reminder of the cruelness of Derrick. The maidens were pleased that she was so happy.
It had not taken long for the entire realm to discover the story of the failed wedding. Derrick was banished to an island far away and Roger took over his father's kingdom.
Old Bear was appointed to be chief adviser to Roger, the new king.
Sir Wright was awarded for his deeds by the honor of being knighted. The day that Rosanna was well enough to leave her chamber, Roger had found her and asked her to marry him. Rosanna was still recovering from her last proposal and she refused. The two brothers looked so much the same that she feared she could never marry Roger but after three months of his asking, Rosanna accepted, to his great relief.
Once more her father came to get her but this time she had no reservation.
“Are you ready?”
Her father asked. She took a deep breath then nodded just as the large doors opened.
King Charles put his daughter's hand in Rogers and as all tales must end; they lived many happily ever after.
