Princess Rosanna 9
Neither Princes spoke but both were very angry.
Rosanna stood in the same place and was trying to decide whether or not to bang on the door again, but before she could make any decision Peter Wright opened it, this time much gentler.
“I am sorry to have been so harsh but I must explain. You see, your highness, King Derrick was out there and I was obeying his orders.”
Rosanna and Amelia both repented for their anger.
Peter pulled his shoulders back with a firmness that told both princesses that he was angry about something and he was going to speak to them about it.
“King Derrick has informed me that you have threatened to kill yourself because you wish not to be queen. He has ordered me to not allow you to have anything that could be deadly.”
Amelia, who was still seated on the stone, watched as Rosanna's small hands clenched into fists.
“You should not believe everything you hear, sir.”
Rosanna stated with hurt evident in her voice.
As soon as the words had escaped her mouth, Rosanna wished that she could pull them back in again. Peter Wright’s shoulders slumped and he looked at his toes much like a young child would do after being reprimanded.
“I never said I believed him, your highness.”
Shame hit Rosanna with full force and it was her turn to duck her head, she could feel her cheeks redden with embarrassment. She could not think of anything to say but thankfully she did not have to because the guard spoke.
“I would not believe one who is so untrustworthy that he would lock his own blood relative and future wife in this place.”
He looked around the dungeon in search of Amelia, when he found her; he made a short bow her way.
“Pardon, ma’am, if I have offended you by saying this.”
Amelia could not be offended because she felt the same feelings toward her brother and nothing anyone could say would be as debauched as what her own mind thought.
All this time Peter had remained just outside the door but now he walked in and shut the door behind him.
Then Peter motioned for both of them to come closer.
Once this was done he began to speak in a whisper.
“I am prepared to face whatever consequences there may be in order to help the both of you to get out of here.”
Rosanna sighed with relief of the fact that she would not have any trouble from the guard.
She was so busy rejoicing over the fact that she was surprised when Peter asked.
“So does anybody have any plans?”
Rosanna's brow pulled closely together with worry.
She had been too busy thinking over other things that she had not even bothered to think on how she would get out of this place, her only thought was to get Peter to help but after that?
~chapter four
Plans on both sides~
It appeared, though, that Amelia was not so unplanned. For she had moved out of her corner and motioned for the other two to lean their heads close to her, as if she was worried about someone else hearing them.
“I have been thinking about what should be done ever since my brother put me in here. I know someone who can help us.”
She stopped and looked at her two listeners with a decided look on her face.
“He will help us. The problem is that I have no way of getting to him and no one else knows where he is, except for me.”
Rosanna, Amelia, and Peter were busy trying to figure out a good escape plan. If the rats were listening to the conversation, they would have heard three brain wheels turning at rapid speed.
There would be danger if any of the three went but they knew not to allow anyone into their plans, for the fact that they did not know who to trust and they did not want to put anyone into harm’s way if things were to go wrong.
“You will have to go, Amelia. You are the only one that knows where to go.”
Rosanna stated very plainly but Amelia had other ideas.
“What if I cannot get back in time? I only have one day, you know. If you were to go then you would be safe.”
Amelia was not the only one with ideas; Peter had an idea of his own but he felt a need to speak humbly.
“You're ladyships, pardon me, but I would think it best for Princess Amelia to go for the gentlemen, as you see we would not waist time explaining directions nor would we risk Princess Rosanna becoming lost.”
Peter bowed to show that it was their decision and he was only there to help if they needed it.
Silence fell over the group as both princesses looked at Peter, and then Rosanna spoke.
“I agree with Sir Wright.”
Peter became red with embarrassment at being called by such a high title but neither Princess noticed because it was not light enough for them to see his face.
“I think we should do his plan.”
Rosanna continued.
“But I will not allow Sir Wright to stay here; he will go with you, Amelia. Take along his family, for their safety and both of your dignity.”
Rosanna stopped to gather her thoughts then spoke again with a quiet but authoritative voice.
“If, by chance, you cannot find whom you are searching then I order you both to go far away and do not return.”
This statement made the matter seam most urgent and all three realized that there was no time to waist.
Peter spoke up and his tone was one of frightened.
“I will gather my family, after that I will come back for you Princess Amelia, and then we shall leave. It should only take one hour at the most.”
Nothing more was said and Sir Wright left the dungeon. There was nothing for the Princesses to do but wait; and wait they did.
It did not take long before Sir Wright returned, he had not yet regained his composure but he did not fail in his purpose.
Peter informed the princesses that his family was waiting just outside the castle walls.
Princess Amelia looked at Peter very apprehensively.
“Sir Wright, are you positive that everything will go fine?”
Peter wanted to ease the Princess's mind but he could not for he could not even ease his own.
“I can guarantee nothing but we will try our best.”
Princess Amelia sucked in some air then nodded her head to inform Peter that she was ready.
As they were about to leave Rosanna ordered them to stop.
“Wait, Amelia, take this.”
Rosanna slipped off her cloak and handed it to Amelia.
Amelia received the cloak and flipped it over her body, only her face was uncovered.
“Thank you, Rosanna, please, do not do anything that you will later regret, no matter what.”
Rosanna slightly smiled but knew that she could not make any promises.
Peter opened the large door and scanned the area to make sure that it was clear then they left.
When the door rattled shut Rosanna shivered with fear. She knew that the only one who could help them now was one who saw everything. So Rosanna knelt down on the hard floor and lifted a plea for help to God.
She than rose and sat on the stone seat.
The silence and darkness overcame her and she leaned her head against the wall, allowing herself to drift off to sleep.
